Tony Brett has joined the Information Security team as the University’s Interim Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), part of the Assurance Directorate in University Administration and Services.
Tony has been seconded from the Medical Sciences Division where he is the Director of Medical Sciences Division IT Services, and takes over
from Graham Ingram, the previous CISO, in this interim role. Tony brings a breadth of experience been working in the University for over 30 years.
Tony started his IT career as the first IT Manager of the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. He was IT Manager in Corpus Christi College for 5 years after that, then moved to become the Head of IT Support Staff Services in IT Services, where he was responsible for managing the relationship between central and local IT across the University. He has been Director of MSD IT Services since 2016.
Tony aims to continue to ensure good Cyber Posture and Information Security Practice at Oxford, by working closely with the Cyber Security Competency Centre, part of Oxford’s Digital Transformation as well as building on the Cyber Security Programme that includes new Information Security Awareness training and a network asset discovery and management project.
Commenting on the role, Tony said,
I am honoured to be entrusted with this role and in my first weeks delighted to find skilled and experienced teams under Michael Pinhorn and Kashif Mohammad. I look forward to working with them and their teams to continue the excellent work Graham has started.
Outside of IT, Tony was the founding chair of Oxford University's LGBT+ Advisory Group. He served as a member of Oxford City Council for nine years, as Deputy Lord Mayor of Oxford for the last one. Keen to support secondary education in Oxford, Tony has served as the Chair of Governors at Oxford Spires Academy and is currently in that role at The Oxford Academy. He enjoys choral singing, cycling and wild swimming.
